In the late 1950s, catalogues from ÚLUV (Central Office of Folk Art Production) and the state enterprise Dřevopodnik n. p. featured several models of tall lounge chairs designed to bring high-quality, modern, yet affordable furniture into Czechoslovak homes.
These designs reflected the growing influence of Scandinavian furniture aesthetics, combining clean, functional forms with local craftsmanship and durable materials. The result was a uniquely Central European take on mid-century modernism — elegant, practical, and accessible to a wider public.
Today, pieces of this type are considered among the most sought-after examples of Czechoslovak mid-century furniture, appreciated for their authenticity, comfort, and timeless visual appeal.
