ULUV – Central Office of Folk Art Production

In the late 1950s, catalogues from ÚLUV (Central Office of Folk Art Production) and the state enterprise Dřevopodnik n. p. featured several models of tall lounge chairs designed to bring high-quality, modern, yet affordable furniture into Czechoslovak homes. These designs reflected the growing influence of Scandinavian furniture aesthetics, combining clean, functional forms with local craftsmanship and durable materials. The result was a uniquely Central European take on mid-century modernism — elegant, practical, and accessible to a wider public. Today, pieces of this type are considered among the most sought-after examples of Czechoslovak mid-century furniture, appreciated for their authenticity, comfort, and timeless visual appeal.
