Product description
Product description
Exceptionally decorative Art Nouveau wall-mounted medicine cabinet, dating from around 1900. Its elaborate craftsmanship combines extensive geometric chip carving with delicate figural painting, transforming an originally functional object into a remarkable decorative piece.
The cabinet is richly decorated with intricate chip-carved geometric ornamentation. Repeated fan-shaped and stylized botanical motifs cover the door surround, side panels and architectural upper and lower sections. The cabinet is crowned by an open gallery supported by two turned columns.
The central door panel features a delicate hand-painted figural scene, depicting a female figure accompanied by two winged putti beneath a flowering branch. The subtle drawing and pale blossoms create a beautiful contrast with the deeply carved geometric decoration surrounding the panel.
The cabinet also retains period metal hardware and lock. Its gently aged surface and natural patina contribute considerably to its authentic character.

Historical background
Around the turn of the 20th century, even relatively modest pieces of domestic furniture became vehicles for decorative craftsmanship. Art Nouveau aesthetics influenced furniture, lighting and everyday household objects, emphasizing both craftsmanship and ornament.
Wall-mounted medicine and apothecary cabinets from this period were often fitted with shelves, drawers or lockable doors while simultaneously receiving elaborate decorative treatments. Surviving European examples are commonly dated to the first decades of the 20th century.
This particular cabinet is especially appealing for its combination of strong geometric chip carving and delicate figural decoration, giving it the character of an individually crafted piece.
